An Alchemy of Sounds in Crises

Drawing on alchemy as both metaphor and method, this artist book traces sonic practices that arise within radical transformation—approaching sound beyond audibility, across textual, visual, and archival practices, and transducing it onto paper. The texts and visual essays collected here emerged from meetings and conversations around a shared question: what is a crisis, and how do sound and listening operate within it? They follow sounds as they travel and become inscribed in bodies, stories, recipes, maps, weapons, lyrics, and imaginary spaces—reflecting on how sound endures, persists, or is displaced; what it leaves behind when recorded, and what it allows to emerge. Sound is not treated here as something simply captured by text and images, but as an event that exceeds its container, pressing against the surfaces that attempt to hold it.
